Heroic musings

After some wikipedia meandering lately, I have read some articles about big characters, such as Martin Moffat or Carlos Hathcock; which brought me back to my list I intended to document before:

List of favourite super-ego adjectives.
  • God-King
  • Warrior Poet
  • Ultra-Philanthropist
  • Mad, bad and dangerous to know

Don't tase me (bro)

It's a great photo in the Indo recently. Not long after the tase me bro fracas.

Science unfurled

I received my first chemistry set as a Christmas present aged about 10 and loved it. Great gift; but now there are reports that these are becoming scarce in the US because of big-brother style worries. Sheesh, way to stifle young minds.

Spot of jogging

Ran my first marathon yesterday. Clocked in at 4:28. Enjoyable experience, lots of support from people and the weather was perfect. Feeling OK after it and reckon I'll probably do it again some time.

Power of drivers

I noticed today that when I have my ATI Catalyst Control program running in the background (it is the driver frontend for my ATI graphics card), the overall power usage of my computer setup is 209 Watts, but if I close that program, the power usage rises to 221 Watts. I know what your thinking: wow.

Cool, what phone is that?

Am now rolling with the Nokia E65 and loving it. Proper little smartphone with Wi-Fi. Have started of with 100MB/month plan, let's see how that goes :-). Comes with Skype, SlingPlayer, and Orb, a remote PC controller as standard. It is running gMail/gCalendar/gMaps all nicely so far. 2GB microSD in the post; fun times.

Table for two, sir.

Mmmm, that's some good eating. Went out for a spot of dinner on the green there Tuesday. Damn fine steak and a Neuf-du-Pape, the Beastie boys would have been proud. (Intercontinental when I eat french toast; fine malt lyrics I say).

Shopping oddities

So, there I am; traipsing around the supermarket when I happen across a counter with some pretty exotic items. 1350 Euro per kilogram... pretty serious stuff there. As an aside I see Gold is running at around 15000 Euro per Kg these days.

Shoelace pimpin'

There is a lot more to shoelace tying than meets the eye. Of course the interweb has plenty of info. Currently on my white shox I am doing a retro tip-o-the-hat to Michael Jordan's 23. The two crossovers, and 3 straight give a nice roman numeral representation of 23. Now to try it in Hex....

JournalLive

I got up and running today with the JournalLive app from OpenPlain. It tracks where I spend my working day (applications on my work PC, not my geolocation...yet).
www.journallive.com for your own trial.
Perhaps it will encourage me to be more productive during the day. I'm always a fan of the "getting things done" mantra, as per some of www.lifehacker.com snippets but don't always follow through with them.

First blog, Odometer rollover

Always exciting to see an odometer rollover (or reach interesting numbers at all for that matter). in this case, my mountain bike rolled over for the second time. My car's odometer just passed the 100K mark too. Yes things really are too exciting to mention.
